X-Ring Sealing Principles

X-Ring is the most commonly used seal in the hydraulic cylinder, it is a typical lip seal, whether used in pistons or piston rods can obtain a good sealing effect, U-ring in low pressure case, only by the lip over-deformation to create a seal, due to the small contact area, friction is relatively low, with the pressure increases, lip elastic deformation increases, stretching , compression and bending stress increases, the U-ring radial compression force automatically increases, and the length of contact with the sealing surface increases until the entire axial length of the U-ring contacts with the sealing surface, thus ensuring good sealing in the high-pressure state.

Comparison Of Xring And Oring

In general, the sealing principles of X-rings are almost identical to that as O-rings. Sealing is achieved with radial squeeze in a piston/bore type gland.

*No bending: O-RING will bend in the groove during reciprocating motion, but the X RING will not bend due to its special contour.

* Low friction and long life: XRING is smaller than the O-RING pressure surface of the same size, not only the contact pressure, but also the friction and wear are reduced, and the product durability is excellent. The minimum pressure required for X-RING can be up to 5% of the width, thus providing an effective seal.

*Excellent sealing : The X RING contact is evenly distributed across the entire section, so there is less leakage than the O-RING.
